"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." (Genesis 1:1-2)
This is the story that I was raised on and taught from. The King James Bible Version of "The Beginning." But...have you ever really wondered how it all began? Was it all just the works of God? Was there a Big Bang that scientifically formed the heavens and earth and everything between? And if we have our own version or theory of how it all began, then wouldn't others have their own version too? Wherever you are in the world, there is someone somewhere else across the world, land and sea who also exist. So if we don't know them and they never know about us, then their version of "The Beginning" would also exist.
In my Early History Humanities class we discussed all the different myths about how the earth or civilization began. Now keep in mind that a myth is not a lie, but simply a story. If everyone from every part of the world has their own myth about how the beginning came to be, then who's is true? Could the Hebrew version in the bible be the only true version? Perhaps the version from the African tribes? Perhaps Native Indians have a version that is a bit more real? If you never know anything other than what you know now...well, then that's just all you have to go on. What is your "In the Beginning" myth?
